Edwin Uceta has had quite an off-season so far. In early December he was added to the 40-man roster for the Dodgers. He has also been playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic. The team he plays for is called the Estrellas Orientales which Google translates to “Eastern Stars”.

For the season Uceta has 18.1 innings over six games. Although I don’t have actual knowledge of the plan for Edwin in winter ball there is no doubt the Dodgers control his innings. In his 18.1 innings, he has given up 14 hits with 19 strikeouts and seven walks. Overall his ERA is 1.96. The statistics for the winter leagues are not the easiest to find but his statistics can be found here.
It is great that Uceta is getting this kind of work with the 2020 season a loss for so many players. His 2019 season was excellent as he was promoted to AA due to his amazing work in High-A ball. Before he was promoted to AA he was kind enough to talk to us. I’ve been able to watch him multiple times but when I saw him dominate in the 2018 post-season I was impressed. He followed Dennis Santana on the mound (who was on a rehabilitation assignment) after one inning and proceeded to pitch 5.2 innings of two-hit and no run ball. One of his rewards for his outstanding 2019 was an invitation to 2020 Spring Training as a non-roster invitee (NRI). As the pandemic struck us all Uceta got an invitation to Spring Training 2.0. Clearly, the Dodgers think well of him. Now he has been added to the 40-man roster. Both MLB Pipeline and FanGraphs currently have Uceta as the number 22 prospect for the Dodgers but I think they are underestimating him.
Some Media From Edwin
Edwin was kind enough to send me a picture and a video of him in action with the Estrellas Orientales.
