Dodgers Prospects: Yunior Garcia Gets A Well Deserved Promotion

The original intent of this article was to highlight the improvements of Yunior Garcia during the 2022 season with the Quakes. Now, he is being promoted to the Great Lakes Loons as he has been on fire. The improvement has been noticeable since a slow start to the season.

A Rough Start

In his first month with the Single-A Quakes, Yunior (pronounced Junior) Garcia got off to a slow start. In 59 at-bats, Garcia struck out 17 times and slashed only .186/.304/.305 (AVG/OBP/SLG). May got a bit better as he slashed .245/.322/.396. After two months he only has 3 homers.

Getting On A Roll

After some more playing time as others were promoted allowed Garcia to get more playing time and he took advantage of it. On June 9th, he had a five-hit game with a homer to really start rolling. For June, he slashed .337/.380/.547 with three homers. All of a sudden, he started batting higher in the order and was a key member of the lineup.

In July, he slashed .308/.419/.526. That was just the beginning as August arrived. Yunior really got hot. The highlight was a five-hit game on August 19th with three home runs. With his promotion, he ends August a little early for the Quakes with a slash of .431/.476/.759. He has nothing left to prove at Single-A and is ready for High-A. Garcia ends his time with the Quakes with a slash of .305/.383/.512 with 13 homers and 74 RBI.

Great Lakes Time

It’s clear that Yunior Garcia has earned his promotion to Great Lakes. After such a rough start it looked like Garcia would probably just stay all season with the Quakes. The hard work and persistence have paid off. All the best to Yunior Garcia on his next challenge with the Great Lakes Loons,
